Australian Doctor - Labor hits out at drug price rise.
By AAP and Chris Hingston
LABOR has accused the Federal Government of Cysecretly’ increasing the cost to patients of several commonly used drugs after alleging it has Cymismanaged’ the PBS.
Opposition health spokeswoman Ms Julia Gillard said the rise in cost of Zantac, Tritace and Zoton occurred because the federal health minister had failed to negotiate price cuts with drug companies when rival generics became available and was instead “getting the money out of patients”.
The cost of some drugs to pensioners had almost doubled, Ms Gillard said.
